A few weeks ago we shoot for a brand new product. Reviver. They are odor removing wipes. Really pretty ingenious. It was fun shooting something brand new for the first time and the product is so versatile I think there will be lots of fun scenarios to shoot for them in the future! Check ’em out at Reviver.com
Sandra Booker
We had a blast a few weeks back doing a shoot with a wonderful vocalist by the name of Sandra Booker. While it was a quick shoot I always feel so lucky when I am the one that gets entertained. Sandra, being a performer, knew how to be in front of the camera. That just always makes my part of the process SO EASY! She would occasionally “wander off” to her happy place, but would continue to share it with me while I was shooting, whether it be through an expression, or a giggle, or a spontaneous wandering tune. She made me smile. I hope some day to see her perform live or just be able to hang with her again. Thanks for a lovely afternoon Sandra!!!
Post-Production Magic as always by Lisa Carney
Menchie’s
We just wrapped up another shoot for Menchie’s Yogurt. If you have not tried Menchie’s yet, I absolutely recommend tracking down one of their locations and giving it a taste! I find it to be SO MUCH BETTER than “the competition”! And I would say that regardless of whether we shoot for them or not. The bummer is that every time we shoot for them it seems that we wrap up right before “mealtime” so I don’t take nearly enough advantage of all the tasty treats as I might otherwise. We hope to be doing a lot more with them in the future as they are so pleasant to work with! And next time I am throwing caution to the wind, skipping dinner, and pigging out!!
Doh!.. Forgot to mention… Amazing food styling by Suzy Eaton!!!
International Photography Awards (IPA)
We just found out that four of our images received Honorable Mentions in the 2012 International Photography Awards (IPA’s)! With over 10,000 images submitted… we’ll take it! Thanks IPA’s!

Summer Harvest
Obviously we’ve done a fair amount of food photography lately, what with the recently released Cart for a Cause Cookbook and various other projects that have come through the door… so we thought as we moved into late summer we would take a look at the urban farm harvest… Over the next few posts we’ll share some imagery from the garden…
Here is a tryptic of Swiss Chard…
New Representation!!…
We are VERY EXCITED to announce that we have new representation! This week we signed on with Los Angeles based Picture Matters to act as our exclusive agency in the U.S.
Picture Matters has a great roster of really talented photographers, and we’re thrilled to be part of the mix. We’re looking forward to a LONG and fruitful collaboration with Sherwin and everyone who is a part of Picture Matters. Check out the roster and give Sherwin a call to book us (or any of his artists) for your next project!
Rosslyn – The End
And Finally… with our last post on the Rosslyn shoot, I’ll share a shot that totally takes me back to my Art Center days of shooting fashion with Paul Jasmin. Good times!
The Rosslyn – 4 of 5
Thought we would share two more shots from the shoot we did at the Rosslyn Hotel in Los Angeles a few weeks back… Here is one of them… as the sun set and the marine layer moved in the city lights created a wonderful almost non-directional glow on the surrounding structures. I really love the direction the color palate took (with a little help from me). One more picture in the next post and then it’ll be time to move on to something entirely different!
Rosslyn Hotel – Part 3
Here are 3 more images – a series – a continuation of our shoot at the Rosslyn Hotel in downtown Los Angeles… It was an interesting night as the marine layer had come in and there was some great light & shadowing going on as well as some cool cloud formations. Later the city lights created a wonderful glow. In the next post we’ll add an image where the city lights created a surreal coloring on the surrounding structures.
Rosslyn Hotel – continued
Here is another frame from our shoot at the Rosslyn Hotel in Los Angeles.
Rosslyn Hotel
It just dawned on me that I had not shared some images from a shoot we did at the Rosslyn Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles in May of this year… I’ll post a few over the coming days but here is one… You might recognize Jeremy….

Stock Photography & Tosh.0
It is REALLY RARE that we as photographers get to see end use of our imagery when it is licensed for stock. I have my imagery with a couple of sources; Masterfile has the bulk of my collection and Getty Images has the rest. And it is strange how images from one company sometimes show up on the other’s website… Ultimately it is everyone else taking a piece of the pie before I get the leftovers… But I digress!
The point of the post was to share that the other day I was watching Tosh.0 on Comedy Central (which I am known to do…) and in the blink of an eye I saw one of my images flash across the screen. With a double take and my handy Tivo remote I rewound and confirmed, sure enough, that’s my image! So I hopped on the computer to check out my royalty statement and there it was… a purchase for that image in this months statement. I won’t share how much I was compensated, as that would just be plain embarrassing (low, not high!) but alas.. the image is being used. And sometimes that is worth just as much as the monetary compensation (in this case it was worth A LOT more).
Recent Work
We are busily working on some new imagery. Much of it is now up on the website but thought we’d share a recent addition that has not quite made it up yet.. There are 3 more images from this series that will be added soon, but for now this will have to suffice. Wanted to give a shout out to the crew that helped out on this project… Holly Copeland on Wardrobe, Tania Russell on Hair & Makeup, Retouching by Lisa Carney, our model in this image was Karen Wright, the model in the previous post was Tom Lindsey, and of course much thanks to Jacob Rushing!
Website Updates
Another gorgeous day in Sunny California! Although we are not out in it… We have been busy at work updating the website with a new iteration of the portfolio. With all of the new work we have added it seemed appropriate to rethink the presentation and so while the site is certainly and always ever-evolving, we hope that the current offerings will delight for the time being!
More New Imagery
Well we are finally getting a lot of our new imagery up onto the main website! I have been having a lot of fun recently shooting both for clients and exploring new directions in my own work… And response to the latest stuff has been really positive! Yea! Here is a portrait of photographer Jacob Rushing we recently did. Check out his work as he is a great image maker in his own right!
Keep the Carrot, Ditch the Stick!
Busy Busy Busy….
We’ve been shooting like crazy lately and have a lot of new work to share! We can’t get it onto the website fast enough, so in the meantime we’ll feed you some new imagery here in the blog. We’re playing around with some new looks and variations on them. So we’ll begin with some spicy hot de Arbol Peppers!
New Work….
Hey!
Check out what we’ve been up too lately! We have a new category on the web site , smartly entitled “New Work“, with some of our, well.. new work! We’ll be adding to it regularly so check back often!
Pd46
Our client from one of our recent shoots unveiled their introductory website last week, and two of the images from our shoot are part of the homepage slide show. Check out Pd46haircare.com. A bit of our shoot was also seen on NBC / LA News. The folks with Pd46 were GREAT to work with and we look forward to future shoots with them as their new product takes off!
Compositions in Grey
We recently did a shoot for a company that is producing a product that enhances grey hair. Strangely enough, grey was the theme of the day, for the day of our shoot was a bit grey and stormy here in Sunny Southern California. The only thing that was not grey was the name of our grey horse…. His name was Blue. And he was a patient and entertaining member of the production. We shot everything on white to really keep the imagery simple and graphic. There was also a local news affiliate on hand shooting a segment for an upcoming feature and so we are looking forward to the release of this new product as well as Blue’s upcoming Emmy Nomination.
And as always … Thanks to Lisa Carney for working her magic!
Spring Springing?
mar’sel & Michael Fiorelli
And Finally….. Last but certainly not least, in the parade that has been the Cart for a Cause Cookbook, we come to our final shoot. It was Michael Fiorelli at mar’sel located at Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. We were able to schedule this shoot for the hours before they opened, so we had the place to ourselves, which was really great. We were able to take our time and try out several different options till we found just what we were looking for. Michael prepared a lovely plate of Eggplant Cakes for us to photograph and we were able to wander the grounds to find the right exterior shot as well. Being right on the ocean, we had a perfect level of cloud cover that made shooting with the natural light just right. For Michael’s portrait we moved into the rich (although wonderfully dark) bar area, so we had to create a bit of lighting magic of our own.
This has been a really spectacular project to work on and I can’t say it enough, all for a great cause! We truly hope you will contribute to the efforts of St Vincent Meals on Wheels by picking up one (or more!) of the cookbooks to enjoy some great recipes from some of Los Angeles’ Top Chefs!
SOL Cocina- Newport Beach
Our second to last shoot for the Cart for a Cause Cookbook was with Deborah Schneider of SOL Cocina, down in Newport Beach. She whipped up this amazon plate of carnitas tacos after which we had a great relaxed portrait session. It was all well worth the trip and the portrait we chose always gets a great response when people see it. Right on the marina, SOL Cocina is a wonderful place to dine, so check it out next time you head to Newport Beach CA! And if you mouth is watering for these tacos, get the cookbook and help support the St. Vincent Meals on Wheels program!
